Apparatus for the production of reaction gases, in particular of CO and H2, consists of a vessel which is at least partially filled with a catalyst, for example, of molten pig iron. The gases can be produced in principle from coal and oxygen by providing feed pipes for coal and oxygen as well as other active and reactive substances, such as hydrocarbons. The vessel (1) consists of a vessel bottom (2) which is lined with resistant material (6) and receives the catalyst (3), a cooled metallic top (5), an annular gasket (7) being provided between top (5) and bottom (2) and a gas outlet pipe (8) being connected to the metallic vessel top (5). This is a departure from reaction vessels which are uneconomical to operate, such as steel converters with a 100% lining. As a result, the gas production process become economical from the point of view of construction costs and, in so doing, avoids technical drawbacks such as the high weight and inertia. <IMAGE> |
