PURPOSE:To reduce weight and improve the accuracy in concentric machining in a bearing part, as compared with the case where a fuel injection pump is installed on a cast-iron cylinder block, by installing said pump on an aluminum alloy gear case. CONSTITUTION:A fuel pump 15 is housed in the upper part of the gear-case projection part 12 of an aluminum-alloy gear case 5. An opening 16 for fitting the pump 15 is provided on the upper wall of the projection part 12, and a pump 15 mounting flange 17 is seated on the upper face of the periphery of the opening 16 and is fixed thereto with bolts. Thereby, the weight of the pump mounting part can be reduced, resulting in the reduction in the weight of the whole engine, as compared with the conventional case where the pump 15 is mounted on a cast-iron cylinder block. Also, since both end parts of a pump shaft 25 are supported only by the gear case 5, the positioning accuracy of the shaft 25 in its radial direction and the accuracy in concentric machining in a bearing part, can be easily improved. |
