The invention relates to a sheet feed in printing presses. Based on the object of devising a sheet feed with auxiliary grippers, in which the sheet is always taken hold of at a time when deposition on the stack of sheets with correct positioning of the edges can be ensured, independently of the kinetic energy inherent in the sheet, a sheet monitoring element which determines the position of the sheet to be deposited is assigned to the sheet feed on printing presses with a sheet feed system which guides the sheet on a sheet path, a sheet retarding element and a fixed-cycle controlled auxiliary gripper which is provided with a gripper system and an actuating element which controls the gripper system, and the sheet monitoring element is connected via an evaluation block to the actuating element of the gripper system of the auxiliary gripper.
