A gas is humidified before passing into a heat exchanger, e.g. a blast furnace recuperator, by introducing it into a chamber together with atomised H2O. The flow, temp. and pressure of the gas and the H2O particles through the chamber are such that the gas leaving the chamber contains H2O vapour. The process can be used in iron and steel making and in gas turbines. Although the air/water vapour mixt. entering the recuperator is at a lower temp. than conventionally the heat transfer is greater and the efficiency of the recuperator is improved. The energy saving is equivalent to that necessary to evaporate the water. The energy needed to compress the air is also reduced.
|
