[Also in Division B8] Means for feeding blanks 28 to a die-press comprises a magazine 27 containing a stack of the blanks, a mechanical, pneumatic or magnetic gripper 23 for gripping the topmost blank of the stack, and means 20 for raising the gripper and blank. As shown, the gripper 23 operates by suction and is raised and lowered by a pneumatic cylinder mounted on a bracket 18 which is carried by a slide 12. Magnets 29 separate the upper blanks in the magazine. A pneumatic cylinder 15 feeds the slide along rails 11 to carry the blank over a recess 59 to the pressplaten 6. The floor 32 of the magazine is raised by a screw-threaded spindle 34 which is turned by a toothed wheel 35 operated by a pawl (40), Fig. 4 (not shown). A pneumatic cylinder 39 rocks the pawl, and the spindle 34 engages screwthreads in a split nut 45 which may be opened by a cam-lever 54 to allow the spindle to be returned against a stop 55. The press may include a device for transferring the blanks from the recess 59 to the various die-stations in the platen 6, as described in Specification 1,104,468, the press and transfer device being controlled by a switch 65 operated by the feeding device. Operation.-As the gripper 23 picks up a blank its piston-rod 22 actuates a switch 56 for raising the gripper. When the gripper reaches its top position it is moved towards the press by cylinder 15 until the slide 12 operates a switch 60 for initiating downward movement of the gripper. The vacuum is interrupted in the gripper 23 as the gripper reaches its lowest position so as to drop the blank in recess 59; switch 56 now initiates upward movement of the gripper, and a switch 62 causes a return movement of the slide 12, which restarts the cycle by operating a switch 64. |
