The inflatable annular floating body is split at a point along the periphery, so that it can be pulled in the tangential direction over the pipe which it is to support and fixed in place. On inflation, its inner surface grips the pipe and it has a filler valve at the split and one at the opposite side. Before insulation, the ring interior surface is temporarily secured in position by an auxiliary fixing device, while the ring ends at the outside are held together by a row of loops through which a stainless steel pin is thrust. The walls of are of rubberised canvas cloth or plastics fibre cloth and are glued together.
