<p>A fumes control system for an electric arc furnace includes an exhaust ducting, a movable hood for the roof of the furnace, and a charging hood. The charging hood can be moved into close overlying relationship to the mouth of the furnace when the roof and movable hood are moved away during a charging operation. An opening is provided in the charging hood for passage of a charging bucket. A columnar exhaust duct comprising upper, intermediate and lower portions is supported on the furnace crucible. The exhaust ducting is flexibly attached to the lower portion to allow the columnar exhaust duct to tilt with the crucible. A conduit couples the movable hood to the upper portion when the roof is covering the mouth and the intermediate portion includes a device for supporting the charging hood from the exhaust duct. The system is integral with the melting furnace and provides fumes exhaust during tapping% slag discharge, charging, melting and oxygen lancing operations. The operating side of the furnace is left clear.</p> |
