PURPOSE:To prevent reaction of TiO2 in a background material with an electrochromic substance in a display electrode by interposing an ion-permeable porous material between the display electrode and the background material. CONSTITUTION:A display electrode base 1 comprises a glass transparent base 1a and a transparent conductive film 1b. A display electrode 2 is arranged on the inside of an element, and WO3 is used as an electrochromic substance. A counter electrode base 3 comprising a glass base 3a and a transparent conductive film 3b of ITO is also transparent like the display electrode base 1. A counter electrode 4 is provided opposing to the display electrode 2. A background material 5 is an ion-permeable polytetrafluoroethylene film contg. TiO2 dispersed as a shading agent. An ion-permeable porous material 8 is interposed between the background material 5 and the display electrode 2, and a microporous polypropylene film having about 25mum thickness and about 35vol% voids is used for the material 8. |
