Method and means for producing a low-profile modular optical device for coupling with a module comprising an optoelectronic device and other circuits, with optical coupling, while maintaining the optoelectronic device parallel to the support on which it is mounted together with the other circuit or circuits. Conducting zones 8, 12 are provided on the support 1, of which one 8 serves for supplying the optoelectronic device 2 fixed, in a position perpendicular to the plane of the support, to a bent metal strip 4 of elongate shape, one end of which carries the said device, whereas the other end, also bent up, supports the fibre-optic device 14 which is coplanar with the support 1, a flexible conductor 6 producing the connection between the said conducting zone 8 and the optoelectronic device 2 so as to form a low-profile assembly. Application in particular to signal-processing devices using semiconductors with optical coupling. <IMAGE>
