The invention permits the low-cost manufacture of a sprung body for seating and recumbent surfaces of furniture, especially beds. It makes possible orthopaedic support functions therein and by reducing the thickness of the mattress to 4-5 cm, whilst at the same time providing for ease of dismantling, it facilitates regular cleaning at low cost. <IMAGE>
