On this engine, the device for regenerating the particle filter 11 comprises means for raising the temperature of the exhaust gases by modifying the supply conditions of the various cylinders in different ways. These means comprise air pipes 31, 32 connecting the part of the inlet manifold located upstream of the butterfly valve 14 to certain only of the inlet pipes 6, 7, 8, 9, each of these air pipes being provided with a stopping device 33, 34 which is open during the regeneration phases.
