The invention relates to a sewing box which avoids the disadvantages of the known sewing boxes. It is of robust construction and can be opened and closed without difficulty. Furthermore, its interior is closed off in a dust-proof manner. This is achieved in that the sewing box possesses an orifice which can be closed by means of roller shutters and takes up the entire upper surface of the box and which is limited by a frame, and the roller shutters are guided in grooves arranged opposite one another on the longitudinal vertical inner surfaces of the box and each having an oval shape, in such a way that the roller shutters can be countersunk into the box when being opened.
