An access control system for a cash dispenser (2), which can be reached through an entrance door (3) in a foyer (1) of a bank, possesses, in order largely to prevent the misuse of the cash dispenser (2) or an attack on a customer in the foyer (1), a video camera (10) directed in the foyer (1) at the region in front of the cash dispenser (2) and a monitor (6) which can be seen from outside in the vicinity of the entrance door (3) and which, when there is a person in the foyer (1), reproduces the image received by the video camera (10). The image received by the video camera (10) can be recorded by a video recorder (11). If there is no person present in the foyer (1), the monitor (6) can be used for reproducing general information. <IMAGE>
