An identity card made of a laminate of, in particular, thermoplastic sheets joined together comprises a substrate having an electronic system consisting of contacts, conductor tracks and at least one integrated circuit. It also has a magnetic track which is preferably on the front of the card and underneath which a region for embossings is situated which is subdivided into a plurality of rows running parallel to the magnetic track and to the long edge of the card. The invention provides for the substrate to be mounted at one side of the card in such a way that an electronics system is confined to a zone which is bounded by the row ends at one transverse side, at the side opposite the latter by the lower end of the transversely extending card edge and, in the direction perpendicular thereto, by the adjacent portion of the long edge of the card extending underneath the rows. The integrated circuit and all the other circuits in the zone section in front of the ends of the lower rows, and the contacts arranged one above the other in the transverse direction and the conductor tracks in the section of the zone situated above the latter are accommodated in the region above the region subdivided into rows underneath the magnetic track, the contact connection areas being exposed on the rear of the card at a distance from the card edges.
