PURPOSE:To prepare a polychroic single crystal capable of displaying >=2 colors by installing a sintered bar contg. several coloring materials in a floating zone furnace and allowing a single crystal to grow. CONSTITUTION:A bar is prepd. by sintering after adding, for example, 1-10wt% chromium oxide to alumina. A material prepd. by adding 0.5-3wt% TiO2 and 0.5-2wt% Fe2O3 to alumina is wound around the outside of the sintered bar as a core, and the assembly is sintered again to obtain a sintered bar having a double structure. When the sintered bar is installed in a floaring zone furnace and a single crystal is grown, a single crystal having an inside structure colored red and an outside structure colored blue is obtd. |
