PURPOSE:To prepare the titled compound useful as a raw material for the preparation of an antiepileptic agent, in high yield, by reacting epichlorohydrin with Co and an aliphatic alcohol in the presence of cobalt carbonyl catalyst and a specific base. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of the titled compound by the reaction of epichlorohydrin with CO and an aliphatic alcohol in the presence of a cobalt carbonyl catalyst (e.g. di-cobalt octacarbonyl), the reaction is carried out in the presence of an alkali metal compound or an alkaline earth metal compound. The amount of base is 0.01-1, pref. 0.03-0.1mol/mol of epichlorohydrin. The catalytic activity is maintained at a high level, and the reaction is carried out in high selectivity by keeping the pH of the reaction system above 7. |
