A method of adhering a polymeric layer to a polyethylene terephthallate support, comprises the steps of, treating the support with a solution of a haloacetic acid in a solvent which wets the support, drying the treated support at a temperature to remove the solvent without removing the acid, coating the polymer on the support from a solution comprising a chlorinated solvent and drying at a temperature to remove the chlorinated solvent, whereby the polymer layer is firmly adhered to the support. The support may comprise a polyethylene terephthallate film. The acid may be trichloroacetic acid and the solvent may be toluene. The coating may be of cellulose acetate or gelatine and the solvent may comprise ethylene dichloride, methylene dichloride or trichloroethylene. |
