The invention relates to a device which can also be attached at a later date and which makes it possible to adapt the restraining point of the safety belt of motor vehicles to the shoulder height of the occupants. This is achieved in that a plurality of catches are mounted under one another inside an elongate box fastened, for example, to the central bearer of the vehicle. By means of these catches, the height of a tie connected to the belt can be adjusted by hand according to choice simply by pressing it in and shifting it.
