A carbide cutting insert for a cutter pick, with an essentially cylindrical circumferential surface and a cutting face angled towards the circumferential surface, can be constituted in such a way that parts of the circumferential surface are designed as planes running approximately parallel to the axis. Straight cutting edges are thereby formed on the cutting insert in use. The straight cutting edges maintain the normal cutting capacity of the cutter pick until the cutting insert is completely worn.
