A sintered hard material part with a metallic binder is coated, after the sintering has taken place, in its final form with a metal similar or identical to the binder and then heated briefly to a temperature at which the applied metal fuses with or welds to the binder metal of the sintered material part or forms an alloy with the latter. A surface layer with a greatly increased metal content, which very considerably improves the soldering ability of the sintered material part, is thus formed on the sintered material part; at the same time, a particularly dense surface is obtained.
