PURPOSE:To obtain a cam shaft having high dimensional accuracy by installing cam pieces which are formed by molding and sintering wear-resistant ferrous powder into a casting mold then pouring a molten ferrous metal into the mold thereby forming a shaft part and joining the same to the cam pieces. CONSTITUTION:Cam pieces 11 are manufactured by molding and sintering wear- resistant ferrous powder contg. Fe, Cr, Mo, etc. and in some case, journal pieces 16 are manufactured as well. The hollow cam pieces 11 and the hollow journal pieces 16 are installed in the prescribed position of one segmental mold 12' of a casting mold 12. A molten cast iron is poured through a sprue 15 into the mold and is filled into a casting space 13 through the hollow parts of the pieces 11, 16, thereby forming the shaft part and joining diffusively the shaft part and the respective pieces 11, 16. The casting is taken out of a molding flask 12 and is machined, by which the cam shaft having high dimensional accuracy is obtd. at about the same cost as in the case of the prior art. |
