Suspended slideways for conveying passengers through an amusement ride, in particular a ghost train, have relatively smooth riding characteristics in their usual fitting. For many amusement rides, this is undesirable because the visitors wish to have an eventful ride with surprising effects. In order to provide the visitors with the desired, exciting riding characteristics, the invention proposes to construct the cars (12) in a special manner, namely with passenger carriers (18) which are vertically displaceable. The particular feature on the ghost train constructed according to the invention lies in the fact that the visitor travels the majority of the downward movement of the passenger carrier (18) in free fall. In ghost trains, in particular, in conjunction with an appropriately designed scenery, this provides the "thrilling" effects. <IMAGE>
