The oven space of the microwave oven can be closed, sealed to microwaves, by an oven door which can swing downwards. The microwave sealing devices are accommodated in a microwave shield which projects into the oven chamber when the door is closed. According to the invention, the surface of the microwave shield lies in the plane of the oven floor when the oven door is swung into the horizontal position, and acts as a surface for sliding cooking containers over. <IMAGE>
