The invention relates to a considerable improvement in ordinary dishwashers for tableware and kitchenware, having at least two crockery baskets arranged one above the other and spraying systems arranged below them for the washing liquid. By means of the divisibility of the washing compartment, a more efficient use of the requirement for washing agent, water and energy is achieved. As a result, optimum utilisation is always achieved with individual requirements both with smaller and with larger amounts of crockery. Furthermore, efficient production of a dishwasher of this type is proposed by the manufacture of equal sections of the washing compartment which, placed one above the other in any number, results in a dishwasher which has a more or less large washing volume and can always be operated efficiently in one or more sections of the washing compartment.
