The distance measuring device with computing function assists pilots to navigate, especially those on solo flights. The pilot can always read off the distance travelled or to be travelled, the time consumed or to be expected, and the associated speed. The modification capability (expansion) of the time scale renders other computing processes superfluous and saves considerable time. No additional space is required for mounting on the chart or on the pilot's clothing. As a result of the quickness of operation, the pilot can check his flight more frequently and at shorter intervals.
