Prodn. of homo- and co-polymers of 2-6C alpha-mono-olefins at 20-160 deg.C and 1-100 bar by means of catalyst system comprising a Ti component (I), Al alkyl (III), and co-catalyst (III). (I) is prepd. by (i) contacting 100 pts.wt. TiCl4 with 1-10 pts.wt. diester (IV) of phthalic acid and a prim., sec., or tert. alkanol of 1-8C at 50-120 deg.C until homogeneous liq. is obtd. (ii) continuously mixing this liq. for 0.1-2 hours at 40-180 deg.C with Mg alcoholate, Mg(OD)2 (where D = monovalent 1-8C satd. aliphatic and/or aromatic gp.), of particle size 0.05-5 mm, in molar ratio (IV):Mg(OD)2 1:15-1:2, then sepg. off the solid phase. (iii) continuously mixing 100 pts.wt. TiCl4 with 1-50 pts.wt. solid phase from (ii), and opt. up to 15 pts.wt. (IV) at 40-180 deg.C for 0.1-2 hours, and sepg. off the solid (I). (II) has formula X.Al(Z)Y, where X, Y = 1-8C alkyl, Z = 1-8C alkyl or Cl. (III) is a tri(1-4C)alkoxy-phenylsilane. Atomic ratio of Ti in (I):Al in (II) is 1:10-1:500, and molar ratio (II):(III) is 10:8-10:0.3. Pref. olefin is polymerised at 50-120 deg.C and 20-70 bar. In (i), 2-5 pts.wt. (IV) is used, temp. is 70-110 deg.C. In (ii), Mg alcoholate has particle size 0.5-3mm, D is partic. 2-4C alkyl, molar ratio (IV): Mg alcoholate is 1:10-1:4, contact time is 0.2-1 hour, temp. is 80-140 deg.C. In (iii), 1-20 pts. wt. solid phase from (ii) and 1-7 pts.wt. ((V) are used, contact time is 0.2-1 hour, temp. is 80-140 deg.C, Y and Z = 1-4C alkyl. Atomic ratio Ti in (I):Al in (II) is 1:20-1:200, molar ratio (II):(III) is 100:5-10:0.5. (IV) is diester of 2,2-dimethyl propanol. |
