MICROPROCESSOR IMPLEMENTED ELECTROSURGICAL GENERATOR An electrosurgical generator having a source of electrosurgical energy connected to a load including a patient. A microprocessor implemented control circuit adjusts the actual power delivered to the load, the circuit including first circuitry for determining the impedance of the load; second circuitry for computing a correction factor depending on the value of the impedance where the correction factor corresponds to a required load power; and a third circuit responsive to the correction factor for adjusting the source of electrosurgical power so that the actual power follows the required power. The control circuit also includes circuitry for selecting first and second modes of operation of the generator when the load impedance exceeds a predetermined value where, in the first mode, a constant voltage characteristic is maintained and in the second mode, the load power is decreased in accordance with the square of the load impedance. |
