A repair assembly is inserted and secured within a tube. The assembly has a cylindrical shell of outer dia. equal to the tube inner dia. and at least one region which can be outwardly radially expanded. A shape memory alloy ring is located in the shell at the region to be expanded. The threshold temp. of the ring is below normal tube operating conditions. The temp. is held below the threshold until the ring is in the correct position. The temp. is then allowed to rise so that the ring permanent expands the shell and forms a leak-tight interference fit with the tube at a desired position.
