IC engine carburettor system - meters fuel quantity using sleeve sliding over opening in side of cylinder

The carburettor has an air metering flap (2) upstream of the driver controlled throttle (6). The flap carries a cam (23) which moves a lever (22). The other end of the lever depresses a sleeve (16) against a spring (14). The sleeve (16) slides within a cylindrical chamber (10) which dips into the float chamber (8) of the carburettor. The amount of fuel leaving the chamber through these passages is governed by the extent to which the bottom of the sleeve (16) uncovers a hole (15) in the cylindrical chamber. This is controlled by the air metering flap through the cam and lever mechanism.
