PURPOSE:To obtain a battery which a large amount of halogen is steadily held and current is delivered for a long time by using activated carbon fiber in which halogen or halogen complex is adsorbed or impregnated as a positive electrode in a battery using alkali metal as a negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:The amount of halogen adsorption and energy density are increased with increase of surface area of activated carbon fiber, but 500- 2,500m<2>/g of surface area is preferable from a strength standpoint. Fluorine, chlorine, or iodine is used as halogen. Amine group or halogen complex formed by organic compound having double bond and halogen is used as halogen complex. By using activated carbon fiber 2 having large surface area as the positive electrode, a large amount of halogen is adsorbed (20mg of activated carbon fiber having a surface area of 2,000m<2>/g adsorbs 100-200mg of iodine), and a high energy density battery is obtained. |
