A housing 24 of a loosening device 22 is fastened above a conveying device 10, two arms 30, 31 being driven to and fro in said housing 24 by a crankshaft mechanism in such a way that they execute their working stroke oppositely to the conveying direction of the conveying device above an adjustable level of the stream of hay and thereby pull any clods or lumps out of the stream of hay and throw them to the rear. The loosening device 22 for hay or the like makes the stream of hay uniform and ensures that relatively large clods or lumps cannot pass into the following conveying blower. <IMAGE>
