The holder for absorbent swabs used by dentists for keeping the working area in the mouth of the patient dry, is composed of two receptacles (1) which are manufactured in a single piece by injection of plastic material, with an elastic stirrup (2). The receptacles (1) have the general shape of cylindrical sleeves. They are opened out wide by a longitudinal slot (4) and a cutout (7), which leaves only two narrow longitudinal parts (8) of them, connected together at their ends by flanges (9, 10), in order to leave uncovered most of the surface of the absorbent swabs (3) which they are intended to receive. Fitting of this holder is performed by separating the receptacles (1) from each other, against the action of the stirrup (2), which then causes the pinching of the gum of the patient between the swabs (3), avoiding premature movement of the latter, even if the patient does not keep his tongue still. Furthermore, this support is arranged so that the stirrup (2) is situated beyond the tooth to be treated, towards the rear of the mouth, so as not to hinder the work of the dentist. <IMAGE>
