PICTURE POSITION DETECTING METHOD

PURPOSE:To attain detection of picture position with less error and simple calculation by extracting an object closed area in the 1st area and the 2nd area, calculating an average coordinate value of a characteristic point and calculating a position shift from a reference coordinate and a reference angle. CONSTITUTION:Picture information detecting the position shift is inputted and a similar shape closed area being an object of position shift detection included in each of two areas in point symmetry is extracted. Each characteristic point in the closed area is extracted respectively to calculate an average coordinate value of the characteristic points respectively. A midpoint coordinate and an angle of a line segment formed by two average coordinate values are calculated. A position shift output section 10 outputs a difference between the coordinate value and the angle calculated by a midpoint coordinate/angle calculating section 8 and the reference coordinate value and angle of a reference coordinate/angle setting section 9 as the result of position shift detection.
