In a drying cylinder, such as is used in particular in paper machines, and which is heated by vapour condensing on its inner wall (2), there are provided, for improving the heat transfer, in the condensate layer forming on the inner surface, interference elements (7), for example elongate interference strips, which are pressed against the inner wall by elongate spring elements (4) fastened to support rings (3). The spring elements (4) are aligned in the circumferential direction of the drying cylinder and are fastened with one end (5) to a support ring.
