The object of the invention is to form a high strength seal between facing sheets of thermoplastic material along their edges, which may be formed as a stack of sheets. The improved process providing the high strength seal comprises forming a stack (12) of heat-sealable sheets (14) with nonheat-sealable layers (16) interposed at predetermined locations, pressing the sheets (14) and layers (16) against platen (18) by compression means (20) while exposing edge portion (22) to heat source (24) across the thickness of stack (12) to form a high strength seal (90) between the edge portion (22) of the heat-sealable sheets (14). |
