[Also in Division C7] A rechargeable fuel cell has an anode with a catalytic surface to which a fuel gas is supplied and a porous cathode comprising an electrolytioally reducible metal compound to which no oxidizing gas is supplied. As shown in Fig. 1 the cell comprises a hollow, porous, cylindrical, sintered nickel anode 20 supporting catalytic layer 22 comprising Pt or Pd and concentric therewith a hollow, porous, sintered nickel cathode impregnated with nickel hydroxide as active material. The sintered nickel electrode bodies can be replaced by sintered titanium bodies which may be carbided. The hydrogen generated when the cell is recharged may be collected and stored. Other fuels which may be used are hydrazine and methane. |
