Pollutant gases, such as carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and hydrogen sulfide, emitted in the combustion of coal briquettes are reduced by spraying the coal with a liquid mixture containing powdered limestone, cupreous sulfate, potassium permanganate, powdered MgCl26H2O, and chile saltpeter (NaNO3). Briquettes treated with the product show better performance in CO and SO2 emission, combustion time, calorific value, and ignition delays than conventional briquettes.
