<p>Hydrogenation of phenols of formula:-(where each R is selected from H, X or a lower alkyl grp. having 1-4C atoms, each R' is selected from H and a lower alkyl grp having 1-4C atoms and X is CH2NR"2 and piperidinomethyl where R" is lower alkyl having 1-4C atoms, comprises reacting the phenol with anhydrous HCl in an inert solvent, contacting the product with hydrogen in an inert solvent in the presence of an acid-resistant hydrogenating catalyst, and recovering the product.</p> |
