<p>A sealed span across an expansion joint in a roadway. The gap is subdivided into narrower gaps by means of several parallel rails that extend longitudinally and each of these is sealed by means of expansion strips that are secured to the rails. Each rail rests upon its own cross piece to which it is rigidly attached, whereas the other rails cross over these with some free play. A control system that is located beneath the cross pieces in the expansion gap insures that when the expansion joint grows wider or narrower the rails divide the resulting gap into equal sub-gaps. The control device includes a control arm that traverses the gap diagonally. One end of this control arm is connected by means of a connector around a pin that is secured vertically to the gap wall in such a manner as to permit a swinging or pivoting movement. The other end of the control arm is in a like manner secured so as to permit a swinging motion and additionally a displacement motion in the connector to the opposite wall. On the control arm there are connectors that can be moved on the control arm, each of these being connected by means of a vertical trunnion to a cross piece. The control system constructed in this way can be assembled without any free play so that when the expansion joint is crossed there is no associated rattling noise. In addition, such an expansion joint permits a displacement and distortion of the constructional elements without seizing.</p> |
