Filger consists of a porous magnesium silicate hydrate which does not disintegrate in boiling HCl (1:1) but at 30-50 wt. % is soluble in it up to 2/3, on heating to 300 degrees C has a wt. loss of is not >15 wt. % and a Mg content of is not >5%, based on dry material. The filter is very selective for harmful and/or irritant gaseous components of tobacco smoke. |
