The subject of the invention is a process and a device for loading tubular elements or drill rods on a drilling mast. According to the invention, a new drill rod 12 is stored under the floor of the platform 1, the mast 2 is displaced between the drilling position and the position for storing the new rod, the new rod is raised on the inside of the mast, and then the mast 2 together with the new rod 12 is returned to the drilling position in order to join this new rod to the rod string 9 already buried in the ground.
