In a window wiper system having a bearing housing which is driven in oscillating fashion and having a wiper arm which follows the oscillating movement of the bearing housing and whose effective length can be varied during the wiping movement, the wiper arm is attached in articulated fashion to two cranks which have axes of rotation which are fixed with respect to the bearing housing and are different from one another and are driven with respect to the bearing housing during the wiping movement by a gear system.
