PURPOSE:To enable efficient distance measurement by providing range finders of two different systems, detecting which of the systems is to be used by the output from a lens position detector and stopping a photographing lens in a fixed position in the case of a certain condition. CONSTITUTION:When a luminance signal is inputted to a sequencer 8 from a circuit 7 for detecting the luminance of an object which detects the aperture condition of an image pickup tube 6 and when the information on the lens position relating to the focusing is inputted from a circuit 9 for detecting position which detects the position of a photographing lens is inputted to the sequencer 8, the sequencer 8 actuates any among an active range finder 10, a passive range finder 11 and a fixed focus device 12 by the combination of the luminance signal and the position information. The lens group for focusing is fixed when the luminance signal of the object is large or the focal length of a zoom lens is a wide angle even if the output from the circuit 9 is a remote distance. The waste of continuing the distance measurement for the subject within the depth of field is thus eliminated. |
