PURPOSE:To obtain a cationic starch having improved enhancing effect on paper strength in high yield, by adding a polycondensible cationic polymer and 3- chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride to a specific modified starch solution. CONSTITUTION:A polycondensible polymer and 3-chloro-2-hydroxypropyltrimethylammonium chloride are added to an anionic starch, obtained by oxidizing a starch, e.g. corn starch, with ''Antiformin'' (sodium hypochlorite), and having 0.3-15mol% anionic degree based on glucose units, and the resultant mixture is kept at 30-90 deg.C. |
