PURPOSE:To reduce the operator's burden by detecting automatically the size of an original and setting automatically the rest when either the size of paper or copying magnification is preferentially inputted and set to the device. CONSTITUTION:A cover 6 of a copying machine having an open/shut type platen cover is held locked by an electromagnet 17 when the operator sets an original to the machine and closes said cover. Then sensors 1-5 detect the information on the original. When the original is set, the size and set direction of the original are discriminated by the combination of the on-off states of the sensors 1-5 and the size of the copying paper that can be copied is displayed on a display device 15 and the magnification at which copying can be made is displayed on a display device 16 in accordance with the information on the original. The operator assigns the size of the paper by a button 12 for selecting the size of paper in the case of paper size priority. The operator selects and assigns the size among the paper sizes displayed on the display device 15 for paper size in such a case. The operator assigns a magnification by a button 13 for selecting magnification in the case of magnification priority. The operator selects and assigns the magnification among the magnifications displayed in a display device 16 for magnification in such a case. Copying is accomplished when a start button 10 is operated when the initial setting of the copying machine is completed. |
