PURPOSE:To polish workpieces uniformly, by attaching a rectangular workpiece holding member to which the workpieces are bonded, onto the longitudinal shaft of a rotary cylinder opend at one end so that the workpieces are pressed against the cylinder with abrasive grain being disposed therebetween, and as well by forming recessed parts in both ends of the cylinder. CONSTITUTION:Annular recessed parts 116, 117 are formed in both ends of a cylinder 101 opened at least one end thereof. Workpieces 105 through 109 are jointed by means of adhesive agent 110 to a rectangular workpiece holding member 111 which is fitted onto a shaft 112 inserted in the cylinder 101 longitudinally thereof. After abrasive grain 115 for polishing is spreaded over the inner surface of the cylinder 101, the shaft 112 is pressed against the cylinder 101 while it is reciprocated in the directions indicated by the arrows 113, 114, and the cylinder 101 is rotated. Therefore, the workpieces 105 through 109 are polished by means of the abrasive grain 115 so that they are formed therein with cylindrical curved surfaces. The abrasive grain 115 pushed out from both ends drops into the recessed parts 116, 117, and therefore, the rear end parts of the workpieces 105, 106 are also uniformly polished. The dropped abrasive grain is returned to the center section of the cylinder 101 by a means which is not shown. With this arrangement the yield of polishing of the workpieces may be enhanced. |
