PURPOSE:To enable vertical and horizontal writings at the portrait and landscape modes without causing any cost increase by specifying the area based on counts of line and column counters according to the print mode to print a character pattern as intact or turned by 90 deg.. CONSTITUTION:In the horizontal writing at the portrait mode, memory contents are read out sequentially from areas (1,1)...(m, 1), (1, 2)...(m, 2) and (1, n)...(m, n) of a buffer memory 40 as specified by counts of a column counter 20 and a line counter 30 and a character pattern in a character pattern generation circuit 60 is printed (A) on a recording paper 1 passing through a pattern rotary section 70 as intact. In the vertical writing, the character pattern is turned (B) by 90 deg. with the pattern rotary section 70. At the landscape mode (perpendicular to the advancing direction of paper), the area specification of the buffer memory 40 is altered. |
