PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound in high yield, by tetramerizing hydrocyanic acid in a reaction solvent comprising an aliphatic mononitrile, etc., in the presence of a cocatalyst comprising a basic substance and an organic mercaptan or organic disulfide. CONSTITUTION:Hydrocyanic acid is tetramerized at 55-70 deg.C in a solvent consisting of an aliphatic mononitrile, preferably an aliphatic mononitrile having a boiling point of <=110 deg.C (e.g. acetonitrile, propionitrile, etc.) in the presence of a cocatalyst composed of a basic substance (e.g. triethylamine, sodium hydroxide, etc.) and an organic mercaptan and/or organic disulfide. The reaction mixture is mixed with a solvent inert to diaminomaleonitrile and having a boiling point higher than that of the reaction solvent and lower than 150 deg.C (e.g. octane, xylene, etc.), and the reaction solvent is distilled off to obtain the objective compound. |
