PURPOSE:To improve weldability of plated steel sheets for cans by subjecting the width-direction outside and inside surfaces of a steel strip to Ni plating in stripes and then by successively forming chrome plating and chromium oxide layers on the above layer and the whole surface of the steel strip. CONSTITUTION:The Ni plating layer is formed on the width-direction outside and inside surfaces of the steel strip by about 0.05-1.0g/m<2> plating quantity, in stripes with a width of about 6-10mm, at spaces fitted for can diameter. Then the metallic chromium plating layer is formed on the above Ni plating layer and the whole surface of the steel strip by about 10-150mg/m<2>, on which the chromium oxide layer is further formed by about 5-50mg/m<2>. In this way, the plated steel sheet for cans having superior corrosion resistance and excelling is weldability can be obtained with a small quantity plating.
