For real time processing of wide-band signals, the magnitude, C, of the vector sum of substantially orthogonal component vectors &upbar& A and &upbar& B is performed with minimal circuitry by employing the algorithm C=A+KB A>B and C=B+KA A>B where A and B are the magnitudes of vectors &upbar& A and &upbar& B and the factor K is related to the phase angle theta of the vector sum relative to the axis vector A. For precise values of C, the value K is determined from the equation K=(1-cos theta )/sin theta A>B K=(1-sin theta )/cos theta A<B. |
